Itinerary

For flight quotes (international and domestic), please contact our partner Exito Travel.

Before we kick off our polo camp tour in Chile’s Lake and Volcano District, you should take a day or two to adjust to local time and recover from your travels, and allow for any flight or luggage delays. You should fly into Temuco airport (ZCO).

In Chile, domestic flights are operated by 3 local airline companies: LatamSky Airline and JetSmart.

We recommend staying at Best Western Ferrat Hotel in Temuco city, which is well-located with lots of restaurants and other facilities just a short walk away.

Our meeting hotel address is: Juan Reusch #445, Temuco

Official Airport Transfer

The official shuttle company at Temuco’s Airport is called TransAraucania.

They are the only authorized shuttle company at the airport, and their staff wears a blue and green uniform.
By contract with the airport, they must have available transport based in the domestic flights arriving every day.

They have a counter at the airport, right next to the automatic doors (from the baggage carrousel). They offer regular and private shuttles to Temuco at $30.000 pesos (USD $40 per vehicle).

You don’t need reservations and you can pay in Credit Card or Cash. The ATM’s is on second floor.

All their shuttle services will drop you off at the hotel or address you are staying in Temuco. Driving time is approximately 35 minutes.

Accommodation: Santa Amalia Polo Ranch

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Everyday, before or after the polo match, you can add an optional activity to do.

Option 1: Conguillío National Park

The national park is one of the most attractive and outstanding parks of the Lake & Volcano District. This well-conserved territory is situated between 900 and 3.125 meters high (2.953 to 10.253 feet) covering an area of 60.832 hectares (150.320 acres).

During the visit, you will witness how the Llaima volcano has permanently shaped the landscape of the area with its eruptions. Moreover, you’ll have the fantastic opportunity to walk on the lava flows that once came from the heart of the Earth.

Option 2: Villarrica Volcano

a) Easy Hike. Parasite Craters Trail: During this three-hour  hike, we’ll have a spectacular view of the lake and volcano Villarrica, Caburgua Lake and Llaima Volcano in the distance.

The hike passes over old lava fields, partially covered with native flora. Through forests, dried up river beds and cold lava streams, the easy path leads you to your destination: a lava field with a row of five to ten-meter-wide craters, fed by the Villarrica volcano. While some have eroded over time, others still look very much like craters and one can see how the lava must have flown out.

b) Hard Hike. Volcano Climb: Ascending the active Villarrica Volcano is without a doubt a once in a lifetime experience, the climb is not technical, but you need to be in good shape to reach the summit.

Once we arrive at the parking lot of the local ski resort, we will take an old lift and get off at the higher part of the ski courses at 1.800m / 5.906 ft, saving almost 2 hours of climbing. From the top of the lift we begin ascending the slopes of the volcano, stopping briefly every 30 minutes, having a longer break to eat our food when we are half way to the crater. If we find hard snow or ice we’ll put on the crampons and use the piolets and after 5 hours we’ll reach the live crater at 2847 meters / 9.349 ft. The views from the top are absolutely mind-blowing, overlooking five lakes and several volcanoes in the distance such as Llaima and Lanín. The descent is quite fun, especially when we can slide down the snow on our rear ends. We’ll return to the vehicles around 4 pm and immediately head back to our lake-front lodge.

Option 3: Lake Activities

We are staying at a lake-front lodge, so let’s take advantage of all the good things about it.

You can choose from swimming in the lake,  stand-up paddling, kayaking and fishing.

Today, you’ll have a private transfer to Temuco Airport (ZCO) according to your flight schedule.

Or, we can take you to your next destination in Chile’s Lake and Volcano District.

End of our services.

Meals: Breakfast
